San José de sa Talaia

Sant Josep de sa Talaia (San José de sa Talaia) covers the south-west of Ibiza. It is the island’s largest municipality, with some 84 km of coastline, and its summit, Sa Talaia, is also Ibiza’s highest point at 475 m. The airport lies within its boundaries. Known for its sea sunsets and coves, it is much sought after for holiday villas and permanent homes alike.

Villages

Sant Josep (San José), the village that gives the municipality its name, is built around its white church at the foot of Sa Talaia. Sant Agustí (San Agustín) is a small hilltop village, Sant Jordi (San Jordi) lies close to the airport and Ibiza Town, and Es Cubells overlooks the south coast. On the coast, Port des Torrent and Cala de Bou neighbour Sant Antoni (San Antonio).

Coast and nature

Off Cala d’Hort, the islets of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell, together with the western islets, form a nature reserve that can only be reached by sea. To the south, the Ses Salines Natural Park, shared with Formentera, protects the salt pans, seagrass meadows and many birds, including flamingos. The best-known coves include Cala Conta, Cala Bassa, Cala Tarida, Cala Molí, Cala Vadella, Cala Codolar, Cala Carbó, Cala d’Hort and Cala Jondal. Part of Platja d’en Bossa (Playa d’en Bossa) also falls within the municipality.
